Central to most feminist literature is geared towards the restoration and espousing of inherent feminist values. Reversing gender inequalities and promoting the strategic grandness of womanhood, seem to be another mission to be accomplished by most feminist writers across the globe. The genre of poetry written by females, in recent time, arguably attracts low patronage in scholarly criticism. This study, therefore, aims to exam the promotion and positive imaging of womanhood in feminist poetics. Lynn Chukura’sArchetyping, comes very handy as poetics of women’s advocate with respect to venerating and rebranding the essential constituents of the woman’s personality make-up. The study adopts feminism which primarily seeks to counter unfair devaluation and manipulation of women in the society. Feminism also negotiates better living and respect to womanhood in the society. Some selected poems which appeal to feminist ideologies were selected and analysed for the study. The selected poems show that Lynn Chukura, through the medium of poetry, foregrounds women’s innumerable values in the society. Besides condemning the devaluation of women in contemporary Nigeria nay African society, the poet through the poems,crystallises the immense values of womanhood in the society. In some of the poems like ‘’Earth Mother’’, “lessons” ‘‘femininity’’ and “the Wasted Year 1984”, Chukura elucidates how impregnable the woman is, her worth, and what makes her the inevitable in the society. No doubt, Chukura’s poetry succinctly and positively project womanhood in the society. |
