| Author(s): | Cyril Anyabuike |
| Abstract: | The issue of national language is one that elicits diverse reactions among linguists in Nigeria. The lack of consensus of opinion on this issue has led to a situation where the country cannot boast of any national language after several decades of nationhood. This paper revisits the national language question in Nigeria and assesses its implication for the Nigerian translator. The paper asserts that the non adoption of any of the indigenous languages as national language impedes the operational efficiency of the Nigerian translator. It is therefore, suggested that Nigeria as a country should adopt some national languages as a way of boosting the activities of Nigerian translators. |
