Title: Essentials And Issues In Language Syllabus Design
Author(s): J. Anene NWANKWEGU
Abstract: Several distinct types of language teaching syllabi that may be implemented in various teaching situations exist. This paper attempts to critically inquire into these different existing syllabi with the view to examining their contents and merits in the faces of some essentials and issues considered imperative in syllabus design. Each syllabus type is presented and critically examined. It is a significant underlying proposal of this paper that syllables must be flexible, practical and possible to be designed and implemented and since it is rare for one type of syllabus or content to be used exclusively in actual teaching setting, it is therefore suggested that syllabi should combine contents of different types of syllabi in more or less integrated ways.
